Ahh the 80’s! Big Hair, Loud Music & Amy Grant!

Are you living in an old man’s rubble, are you listening to the Father of lies? Hmmm~~~da do da di~~Hmmm~~~ da do da di~~~

Anybody remember this song from the 80’s? Amy Grant belting it out with her raspy like voice?

Maybe you wondered just as I wondered then, what’s an old man’s rubble?

I have come to find out explicitly what an old man’s rubble is and to be sure it’s nothing to write home to mom about.

Plain English… (Works best for me)

Old ~ not age exactly, but previous condition
Man’s ~ not exactly the physical man, but the soul man
Rubble ~ not natural garbage, but sin

In that context, we could say; are you living in the old creation? The one that Jesus died to save. Do you camp in the previous sin camp and refuse to change?

Not very lyrical or poetic, but you get the point, right?

The Apostle Paul, whom we love to quote so much said it this way;

2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away: behold the new has come

So that leaves the question? are you returning to the old man’s camp, even if just for peak at what was? I would caution that he is supposed to be dead, therefore going back might result in unwanted diseases that present themselves in/through dead bodies.

Colossians 3:3 KJV

For ye are dead and your life now hid with Christ in God

Paul goes on to say that we are to walk single minded for the mark set before us. A race that will be won through determination and patience, plus a whole lot of endurance. Like the turtle in the race with the rabbit, perseverance through the obstacles won him the race.

Romans 12:1 KJV (paraphrased)

I adjure or beseech you brethren, by the mercies of God that you present to God your bodies a living sacrifice, Holy & acceptable to God , which is your reasonable service.

Leave the rubble of sin behind, put on this awesome robe of His righteousness and walk steadfastly toward the prize.

One day, (man this give me the chills), one day dear brother or sister, we will see Him face to face and we will know as we are known!

You really don’t want to show up with stinky garbage on you, now do you? I don’t think you do. So, whatever it was that you left behind you, count it as loss and embrace the newness Christ gave you.

Then you can sing this song;

Therefore being~~ justified by faith~~ we have peace~~with God~~ through our Lord Jesus Christ~~ because the love of God~~is shed abroad~~in our hearts~~ by the Holy Ghost~~ which is given~~ which given~~ unto us~~to us

God Bless!

As always I’m hid with Christ!

Shawn
