What is Mustard Seed faith anyway? Why are there so many blogs, sermons and books written about such a teeny tiny seed? It is probably one of the top most important things in our christian walk. Yet it is the most underused resource that we have. Mainly because we don’t really understand it all that much, or we don’t believe it, or we have too much self-promotion for God to be really effective in our faith life.
It is in this vein of thought that I give you my short post on mustard seed faith.
I was driving along to work this morning listening to ltlradio.org Pastor Ron is teaching through a series in Ephesians on Spiritual armor and today’s topic was the helmet of salvation. I have really enjoyed this teaching so much. However on this particular drive it wasn’t really anything he said about the helmet of salvation that caught my attention although I did pick up some valuable truths about the helmet as well.
No, I barely caught it matter of fact. You know how it is when you are driving. I just so happen to drive in the early pre-dawn hours along with others who feel the need to temp God, the gas pedal, the length of the caution light and that’s not even mentioning the lines put on roads to keep you in your own lanes. Yes I must have a huge measure of faith to drive to work and a host of angels to act as my shield.
It was in one of those moments that I was semi distracted. I believe on purpose by my adversary. In my distraction I almost didn’t catch what Pastor Ron said in passing. Oh but you see the adversary is good, but He’s not God. God allowed me in His mercy to hear what it was I supposed to hear this morning.
Luke 17:6
And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of a mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.
Pastor Ron said; Jesus said you need to have faith as a grain of a mustard seed, but somewhere that grain or seed needs to start growing.
What!!!
Did you hear that?
All this time of talking about mustard seed faith how many of us actually think about that little seed actually growing into what it supposed to be?
It is supposed to become a tree!
Can you imagine the implications? If faith that is as tiny as a grain of a mustard seed moves mountains into the midst of seas, commands trees to be plucked up by its roots and cast into the sea, what could a person with a full-grown mustard tree of faith accomplish?
Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and the He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
As we all are aware the greatest step toward pleasing God is our faith. We call Hebrews 11 the Hall of Faith because it gives us an accounting of many who were counted faithful. Some of those we cannot comprehend why they are there but they are Praise The Lord.
I’m glad Lot was put in there and Rahab and many, many others because it tells me God isn’t looking for perfection necessarily, or someone who’s never made any mistakes. He is looking for someone who has that tiny grain of faith willing to allow Him to use whatever steps are necessary to make it grow into a full-blown tree.
So what is holding you back? There are many behind you in history many yet to come there is no-one to stop you from reaching out and reaching forth to those things in faith that God has prepared exclusively for you.
You are the only hindrance to your faith, all the adversary can do is puff at you~
So have you thought about it yet? How is your faith? Is your faith still just a grain of a mustard seed or are you growing to where God’s wants you to be?
Psalms 1:3
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
I’ll see you around I’ve got some watering to do!!!
I’m hid with Christ!
